About Me

I’m Glen Gordon, owner of Freeport Craftsman. I am a graduate from the University of Maine with a degree in forestry. I’ve always loved the look and feel of wood, and my forestry education gave me a deep understanding for how wood behaves in response to changes in moisture and stress.

I spent over two decades working as an environmental engineer, but my love for wood was never out of mind. I found myself taking woodworking classes and making furniture as often as I could.

Environmental engineering was a rewarding career, but I always felt a pull toward a more creative outlet, and the more furniture I made, the more I loved it.

I decided to follow my dreams and honed my skills at the renowned Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine. The founding of Freeport Craftsman is the culmination of over 20 years of furniture making experience and a life-long dream of working full-time in the creative crafts.

My Designs:

I believe well-designed furniture should be both beautiful and useful. My furniture is meant to be used every day while making you life easier and more enjoyable.

My hand-crafted pieces are solid enough to withstand daily life while retaining their beauty. It is made from locally sourced sustainable hardwoods, such as cherry, oak, walnut, and maple, that are grown in the United States. Freeport Craftsman furniture is solid wood and meant to be used daily and passed down for generations.

Freeport Craftsman designs are inspired by the simplicity and clean lines Shakers, the solid designs of the Craftsman movement. I’m also influenced by the natural forms of the seashore, forests, and mountains of Maine.
